Vaccine Day!

Lana's Fund tries hard to help those who cannot afford to keep their pets up to date on vaccines, preventative meds, and well fed.  Today, thanks to backstreetrescue.org, we have a tray of parvo-distemper vaccinations to give to our client animals.  In two weeks, they will all need boosters.  If you can spare some vaccines, we would appreciate the help, or if you can help with a small donation, 18 people donating $5 each can buy another tray of vaccines for $90 including shipping.

We cannot do this without the support of the community, won't you help us help them?

Little Mama Gets a New Home!

Little Mama Goes Home!

Little Mama, one of Ms Rosa's menagerie, has become the newest Galveston resident!  She was adopted this week by a wonderful lady who is a nurse at St. Vincent's Clinic there.  She fell in love with LM's pictures, and knew she wanted a Corgi mix. She saw LM and knew her search was over!  LM is now at home and comfort with a cat whom she largely ignores, and 8 humans! She is the only dog in the place. She enjoys cuddling with her new mom, leisurely walks, and playing with her rawhides.  LM will eventually become a beach bum, but first needs some schooling. She is not grasping the whole idea of walking on a leash yet, she seems to think her mom should follow HER.  But her mom is in love and the whole thing is a match made in heaven.  Ms. Rosa is so proud, and so are we.  Keep in touch, Little Mama. We love you!

The Real of It

There are many cliche's I could use to describe what happened. But it comes down to this.

"Pretty Lady" aka "Pilar" is gone.

Some people we want to help so badly will not be helped. Her dad would not surrender her to us, even though he was homeless. She was too young to spay when I met her. Her dad had a heart attack and went to live with a sister, he still would not surrender her. He left her with various friends and relatives, when he attended his business. I kept checking on her by phone, "oh, she is doing great!" he would tell me. "God is good"

My thoughts were, "she is his dog, who am I to judge him?"

Recently, he left her with his brother, and they told him "she ran away." The other brother said, "I think they sold her and told him she ran away."

I am so sorry Pretty Lady. I hope you have a good life. I know it is not likely, but I have to practice having faith. Meanwhile if anyone sees her on Petharbor, please let me know. I do not know how long she has been gone. She is not chipped, but she is vaccinated. God protect this precious being.

Help Big Mama!

Big Mama is beautiful and sweet. That is what allowed someone to creep into Ms Rosa's backyard and steal her, tie out and all, one night last week. Ms Rosa worried that she would never see this docile girl again. A day later, Big mama was back in her back yard without a collar. Apparently slipping out of her collar, she made her way home and was sitting in her usual place at feeding time. Ms Rosa loves this girl but has 13 other dogs she is caring for. She prefers a home to a rescue, so please share with pittie lovers!Contact us to help Big Mama.

PEANUT

Peanut is a chihuahua mix who was rescued back in May when Ms Rosa pulled him off the streets before he could get hit by a car. The area he lived was a horrible place for a loose dog. Peanut lived with Ms Rosa for a while, and then he was adopted by a Fifth Ward Resident, Herbert. He is such a perfect match to Peanut, they are best friends! Recently, Peanut went to medical foster at St. Francis' Angels, because he was heavy HW positive and was having some symptoms. After three weeks of top-notch care, Peanut came home today. His dad Herbert was so happy to see his boy. Peanut is symptom free today, and will be on slow heartworm kill for about 6 months. Then we hope his retest will be negative. Anyone who does not believe there are folks in the "bad areas" who care about their animals, Herbert and Ms Rosa will change your mind. Ms Rosa fosters 14 dogs and now Herbert is a volunteer dog and cat food distributor for Lana's Fund in the Fifth Ward Area. THIS is paying it forward. Thanks to the wonderful care from Anne and Peggy at SFA, Peanut will live a long and happy life! Thanks to all who support us and SFA.

Skye

Skye is the first recipient of care from the new non-profit group "Lana's Fund". She is a gorgeous and sweet german shepherd mix, cream colored, who lives in Houston's Fifth Ward. She is actually not owned by the mean people whose house she lives under. They are supposedly taking care of her for a friend. They do not feed or interact with her at all. Luckily, Ms. Rosa is their neighbor, and she takes care of Skye along with Diamond, and all her other fosters she has saved from the streets. Skye has recently been hit by a car, and is limping around on 3 legs. Thanks to some donors, we have enough funds to take her to a low cost vet to get checked out. We hope that her leg is not broken, and that antibiotics and a good cleaning are what her poor wound needs. If she needs surgery, we will be looking for additional donations. Skye already has a foster lined up, and we hope she can get spayed this Saturday as well, that appointment was already set.

If you would like to help Skye, please donate to Lana's Fund at PayPal "junerodriguez@aol.com". We are in the process of opening a separate account for LF.
