Chucky Needs Our Help!

Chucky needs our help:  Poor Chucky has developed veneral tumors on his nether regions.  This is serious because he has bleeding with it and a lot of swelling.  It does not seem to hurt him, though.  The vet bill so far is $65, with 4 shots of vincristine to be coming up at $50 a pop.  Can you spare a few bucks to help us cure chucky?  He is a sweet, sweet boy.  To donate, visit www.lanasfund.blogspot.com

Little Bit is now Candace!

UPDATE:  Candace (as she is now known) is a big girl now! She is about 10 lbs, and is growing her hair back thanks to expert treatment by Ms. Rosa.  She has gotten her first round of vaccines and been dewormed.  Ms. Rosa says she eats like the big dogs.  We will be getting her to her rescue by about 12-16 weeks.  She was accepted by Pup Squad.

Little Bit is a female pibble mix, approx 8-10 weeks old, about 6# soaking wet and really needs a rescue to take her in that has a knack with puppies.  We have a foster for her, but the foster has many large to ginormous dogs and I worry about Little Bit being a snack.  Can you please share with rescues who may be able to help her? Her mama was found with her, but ran off. There are no other pups, we think they either died or got run over. In this area of Jensen Dr. in Houston, people cast aside dogs and cats when it is no longer cute or convenient for them to have a pet.  Little Bit deserves a change at a good life.  Will you share with one or two people?  Thanks, and visit Lana's Fund Home page to donate or read the most recent street report from Liberty and Jensen in the Fifth Ward.

Brooklyn: Update!

Dec 11, 2012: UPDATE:  Brookie has a rescue!  She will be fostered for a few weeks and then go where the lucky dogs go... north!  Our foster has a houseful and she needs some socialization, so if someone can foster for a few weeks and do some training for her, we would appreciate it.  Brooklyn is going to have an awesome life! Thanks to Celestine K. for helping to rescue her

Dec. 9, 2012: Brookie was picked up on Sunday morning by a team of indy rescuers, and taken to Banfield vet. She was running around looking for food at East Mt Houston and US59. She is about 3 mos old, weights 17 lbs, and is vaccinated, healthy except f
or hooks and rounds (treated Sunday) and will be ready to go any day now. Our fosters are running over with dogs, we will consider adopting OR transfer to a reputable rescue, already vetted. Please contact us asap, we want her to have a perm home for christmas (PS looks like high percentage lab per vet).  Contact us to help Brookie!

Meet "Augie"

Augie is a male Corgi or Corgi Mix who was found and caught by Ms Rosa earlier this month (Dec). He is about 1-1.5 yrs old, weighs around 20-25lbs, and is a sweet boy.  He has been wormed, vaccinated and is awaiting a neuter appt to get his rabies.  He gets along great with other dogs. He is not dominant or submissive.  Please contact us to help Augie, we have too many dogs and our foster is bursting at the seams right now.  He would be a great family dog.

Liberty Road Report- Dec 8, 2012

A relatively slow day in the Liberty Road "grid" today.  We found Hungry Jack resting on the porch.  Holley says that is where he lives.  No one home, so we did'nt knock.  Whoever owns him does not mind or did not notice we put an ID tag on him.  He looks like a loyal dog and we would like to see if his owner would like help building a fence and caring for his vetting needs.  We will approach him as soon as we can find him.  Jack looks much better as he is eating every day.  Holley feeds him and many others. Sadly, Gentleman Jack has disappeared.

We also ran into Niecey, and she has definitely had her pups.  I worry she does not look like she has much milk.  We have spies in the hood looking for her pups, and Holley is going to try and follow her home until he can tell where she may have them hidden. The pups would be 3 weeks old.  If she is anything like Rue and her pups, those that survive will start coming out and showing themselves at about 5-6 weeks.  We are watching diligently. She seems to have a new male friend.  We do not want that turning into more pups, so we need a spay/neuter sponsor pretty soon.

She and her friend come to Mr. Holley's every day to eat.  He has a "pack" developing of neighborhood dogs who go there where the food is..
This gorgeous boy is unfortunately living at or near  Red, White, and Blue's old house.  At first I thought it might be White again, but unfortunately, white is probably history.  This gorgeous young (intact) boy is loose, outside of the yard. But at least he looks fed.  The hardest thing to understand sometimes is, that the dogs are either tied up forever, or loose on the street.  There does not seem to be many "in-betweens".  I saw the remnants of a gray, shaggy dog, small, maybe 6-7 lbs. in the middle of Jensen drive.  Its no event to see this daily here.

We still need food donations, vaccines, and flea prevention, if anyone has any to spare.  We are always open to cash at Lana's Fund at paypal. Have a good week, and we will keep you posted on the street report.

Diamond Requests Food Donations

Hi. I'm Diamond. I live on Ms. Rosa's Halfway House front porch. The people next door own me, but they never take care of me. I had two litters of puppies, then Ms. Rosa had me spayed. Well, Ms Rosa feeds lots of dogs and I run them off, but I do let them eat. She uses about 300lbs of food every month. I guess it's a lot. She is down to 1 bag. If you can donate some food, it will make us all happy. Contact our friend June to donate bags, or donate to buy food. We get 50 lbs for 29.00

Thank you for helping.

Street Dogs Update: Dec 1, 2012

DATELINE 01 DECEMBER 2012. MIN PIN MAMA (Niecey), not seen by residents of the neighborhood this week. Not on the streets today. Mr. H and the people at the church are on the lookout and have my number. We hope to find her soon, as the pups would be 2 weeks old now.  We need to beat the cold weather.  And get them all vetted.

HUNGRY JACK is looking good! He has put on several pounds. You cannot see his ribs anymore!  What a little wormer will do!  He still has his purple tag on that we placed on him. We found out today where he might live, and we will ask if we can rescue him.  Another thing we did not notice before... he is neutered!  May be able to rescue soon!

GORGEOUS was seen today and fed. She looks pretty good, too.  We dropped some ivermectin in her food, she has some spots that look mangey. She has good musculature, and does not have any ribs showing.  If we find an owner we may ask if we can provide assistance, if they will keep her and contain her better. She tends to roam the streets.

No other dogs were seen today, Gentleman Jack has not been seen for 2 weeks now.  Mr H is on watch.  Mr. H gets about 6 new dogs every week to feed, and we may have to get him a camera so he can take photos for us. maybe we can get him to mail in the memory card!  He has provided about 600 lbs of food to residents in his area, allowing for 18 owned dogs to eat and countless strays.  He is an angel in this neighborhood.

We are now OUT of FOOD and down to $40 in the Fund.  Since we are 501-c-3 now, and you may need a tax deduction... let's work together!  Donate to Lana's Fund and get a receipt for a tax write off.!!
