LF Street Report- 24 Nov 2012

NIECY has given birth somewhere
Not everyone was seen today. We drove Jensen Dr. from Quitman to US59 and back.   It was a mild, dry day with lots of sun, and maybe the strays were lying around napping. Hungry Jack, Gentleman Jack, Babu, Gentle Ben, Gorgeous, Mabel were not out.  Although Mr. Holly says they are there most of the time, and he feeds them every day.  Niecey, the Min-Pin or Dobie mix we saw preggers last week, now has had her puppies somewhere.  We asked the street peeps to look out for where the puppies are, and let us know.  She ate well today.

Mama and Little Bit
Little Bit was Rescued, needs a foster

New dogs seen and fed, one was a mom with pup.  We followed her for a good while to see if she had other pups somewhere, but this one is old enough (weaned) and maybe they were all picked up or died.  We got the baby, but mama ran off.  She ate a lot and we gave her flea meds, iver for her mange, and some wormer.  Baby got the whole treatment also, we need a foster for her.  We are calling her "Little Bit".  She will need more care than Mr. Holly can give her. She also pooped in my car. Not pretty.

Mr. Holly will check for Mama tomorrow and feed her, and keep an eye out for more pups.  It was hard to leave her behind, but she was very skittish.  We are monitoring her. Don't worry.

Senor Dog (sen-yor)

Another senior dog, "SeN~or dog" was spotted. He has quite a scarred up face, but he was very vicious when I approached him to pet him.  He did eat well and got some iver for his mange.  He wanders the street and never really goes into any yards.  But is not friendly.  Not sure what will happen with him.

Everyone else was only fed and watered, as we are now out of fosters, room, supplies, and rescues. Or they just ran away when we tried to catch them.  I usually at least tag them so someone knows we are looking out for them. However, no one got tagged today except Little Bit.  P.S. She is going to be a stunner!

Update: Giving Thanks and our Gratitude List

Happy Thanksgiving!

It has been a while since we posted, but we have been busy.  Quincy got adopted by a nice lady in Austin. He is in training now and will be her perfect companion, we are sure. Yay, Quincy!

Also adopted (we think, she is on sleepover) is Baby Girl.  She was also adopted in Austin.  We will let you know if she stays. We believe in letting dogs stay temporarily to make sure its a good fit for them and the new owner alike! Send her well wishes...

We have a rescue willing to take in Pretty Girl. She is also known as Skye, and has been suffering from injuries sustained in a car strike about a month ago. She hid under the house for so long, we could not get to her til now. She is healing, but has a de-gloving injury on her right front paw, and limps so we need to get her to a vet asap! The rescue will do this for her as soon as we can catch her. We tried Tuesday night, but she slipped out of the slip lead (is that why they call it that?) and ran under the house again.  Ms Rosa will try to catch her for us this weekend.  She should be in foster by Friday!  Wish us more luck...

Gentleman Jack and Hungry Jack have both found rescues!  Gentleman will go to Backstreet Brutality Rescue and Rehab, he is the senior hound mix we spotted last weekend. Hungry Jack is a beautiful but thin American Bully that will go to Bully Beds, Inc. in Midland, TX as soon as we can get him a ride!  Thanks to both of these rescues for helping the Liberty Road dogs out.

Hungry Jack

The following dogs still are on the street, foraging for food and need help and/or rescue.  We are trying to street treat them, until we can find a place for them to go. Mabel is one of three pregnant dogs we are watching. Please spread the word, and maybe someone can help.

Gratitude List

We are thankful for our Liberty Road volunteers, Ms Rosa and Mr. Holley; for Miss Tammy and her hubby, who has donated much needed food to Ms Rosa's dogs; to Barrio Dogs for the Fix-it Program which helped neuter two of Ms. Rosa's Dogs;  to Forgotten Dogs of Fifth Ward Project, who also footed the bills for much of these dogs health and wellness; to Mike Dominguez, fairy Dogfather to these dogs; and to all our co-rescuers, without whom we could not make a dent in this problem called "homeless dogs in Houston".  Last but not least, to the benevelent, universal God who helps us to help the dogs live better lives.

We will keep doing this until the last one goes to a good home, or until we start doing more harm than good.

Namaste'

Also a sad farewell to Peanut, our mascot, who was killed by roaming dogs (uncontained) dogs in the Liberty Road Zone.  He was loved by many, and his legacy lives on in our mission. We love you, Peanut, and we hope to see you when we get to where you are.  We are grateful to have known you.
